A glacial trough between the granite Horns and Cerro Paine Grande, reached by trail from Lago Pehoé past lenga forest that turns deep red through April. The hanging Glaciar Francés calves audibly from the valley floor, and the trail's end at Mirador Británico frames peaks on three sides.

Historic town

A former sheep-ranching port on the Señoret Channel, its corrugated-metal houses facing Última Esperanza Sound. The town is the road and ferry gateway to Torres del Paine, 65 kilometers north, with steppe giving way to lenga forest on the first slopes of the Paine massif.
