Serbia's oldest national park, a low wooded ridge of oak and hornbeam rising from the Pannonian plain above the Danube, ringed by sixteen Orthodox monasteries known collectively as Serbia's 'Holy Mountain.' By October the canopy turns gold around the vineyards of nearby Sremski Karlovci.

A cliff-edge platform at 1,065m above the Drina River canyon and Perućac Lake, reached by a two-hour forest trail from the village of Mitrovac inside Tara National Park. The surrounding beech and pine burn orange and red through October, and the endangered Balkan lynx still ranges these slopes.
