Founded in 1721 as Cantwell's Bridge, this small Delaware port town once shipped wheat and corn down the creek to the bay, and its historic district still holds the brick homes and old tanneries built on that trade. It draws far fewer visitors than New Castle, with the same 18th century brick facades and quiet, narrow streets.
