A relict Hyrcanian forest reserve between the Lankaran lowlands and the Talysh Mountains, roughly 40,000 hectares protecting 435 tree and shrub species, about 150 of them found nowhere else. Persian ironwood, whose leaves turn crimson, orange and gold on the same branch, is the reserve's signature autumn tree, alongside chestnut-leaved oak and hornbeam.

A highland town in the Talysh Mountains near the Iranian border, known locally as the 'Land of Centenarians' for its unusually high concentration of long-lived residents, documented at its Museum of Longevity. Oak, chestnut, hornbeam and beech color the surrounding Girkan forest through autumn, with the Sivakeran waterfall a short drive away.
