When do the leaves change in Portugal?

Typically October 27–November 16

A terrace 5km above Pinhão looks down on the Douro's tightest S-bend, schist terraces of vine stacked on both banks below. Vine leaves turn copper and crimson through the October harvest weeks, holding color into early November once the grapes are in and the terraces empty out.

Typically October 1–October 31

A 10m waterfall on the Ribeira de Leandres, reached by a climb from Manteigas through evergreen woodland that gives way to beech and oak higher on the slope. The surrounding Serra da Estrela, mainland Portugal's highest range, turns gold and rust through October before its first snow.

Typically September 1–October 24

Centuries-old pedunculate oaks line the old Roman road, the Geira, near the Portela do Homem crossing into Peneda-Gerês National Park, one of the last intact fragments of the Iberian Peninsula's original forest cover. Chestnut and oak color the understory through late September and October.
